New York State homeowners struggling to pay their mortgage and property taxes during COVID: no-cost foreclosure prevention assistance is available immediately through Homeowner Protection Program (HOPP) providers across New York State.

This special initiative is designed to build upon outreach by HOPP providers and other organizations.  It is designed to convince at-risk households to seek assistance now instead of waiting until temporary state and federal foreclosure moratoria and forbearance periods end in the coming months.  With new COVID-relief mortgage assistance for homeowners becoming available, this is a critical time for households to get support that is available to them through the HOPP network.

Attached are additional information, instructions and sample copy for use on websites, social media, newsletters and other communication channels.

Please be advised that due to the construction project in Veterans Memorial Community Park that the Town has no choice but to cancel “Noel at Niagara” for the 2021-holiday season. Once completed, this park project expansion will make Veterans Memorial Community Park a true show place within Niagara County and Western New York. Unfortunately, anticipated as well as some unanticipated setbacks make it impossible to hold Noel at Niagara this holiday season. We look forward to the 2022 holiday season where Noel at Niagara will return bigger and better than ever.

MILITARY ROAD SCHOOL

To Our Residents:

I understand the frustration that folks have with this “eye sore” (Military Rd School) on our most traveled road, and I assure you that it is a major concern for the Town Board and myself as well. With that said, I wanted to update everyone on the status of the school as of today’s date.

Over the past few months, I have been in constant contact with the developer/owner regarding the status of the building and the future of the site. After recent discussions with the demolition contractor, as well as Niagara County Brownfield personnel, please find below an estimated up to date analysis and timeline for the demolition:

*The property has been accepted into the State Brownfield Clean-Up Program and thus is under contract for complete remediation as per NYSDEC guidance and guidelines.

*The remediation investigation is scheduled for any time after December 1st, 2020 and the developer is waiting on approval of the work plan as submitted.

*Once the investigation phase is complete (January/February 2021), the remediation phase can begin. This phase could take up to 6 months, providing a ‘clean’ site sometime during the summer of 2021.

I realize that the timeline for the demolition seems lengthy, unfortunately the overall process of acceptance into the NY State Brownfield Program, as well as the NY State DEC requirements are completely out of the control of the Town Board.
